MidState Medical Center Emergency Room

Renovated and rebuilt in 2010, our state-of-the-art ED was designed with the needs of patients and their family members in mind.

  • 56 private rooms with doors for your comfort and security
  • Convenient access to laboratory and radiology services right within the department

  • The use of EPIC for patient charting, allowing your test results and information to be transferred quickly and efficiently
  • Designation as a Primary Stroke Center, signifying high-quality care for stroke treatment (lower)
  • A dedicated, separate Acute Behavioral Health Unit so that patients requiring psychiatric care feel safe and are not disrupted by the main ED area (moved lower)

We utilize LIFE STAR’s critical care helicopter service, which responds to and provides air transport to Hartford Hospital, for patients who require care at a tertiary care trauma center. LIFE STAR maintains a permanent base behind the MidState Medical Center ED.

Emergency Department

  • Over 70% of hospital admission through the emergency department and over 70% are admitted to the hospitalist service

Schedule

  • 32 hours of Physician coverage per day
  • 24 hours of Advanced practice provider (APP) coverage per day
  • 8 hour physician shifts
  • 12 hour APP shifts

One of Connecticut's most sophisticated emergency facilities, the Emergency Department (ED) at Johnson Memorial Hospital offers the most modern medical and communication technology available, a skilled staff that is second to none, and an atmosphere designed to maximize patient privacy and comfort. The facility features:

  • 6 observation units
  • 6 ED Express rooms
  • 3 trauma rooms
  • 5 behavioral health rooms
  • Separate treatment areas for critically injured patients and those with non-life-threatening conditions
  • Special rooms to accommodate the unique needs of women, children, stroke and heart attack victims, psychiatric patients and sexual assault victims
  • Electronic records with patient tracking
